It makes no sense to clean a canning jar only to put it in the cupboard empty. We clean the jar so we can fill it. So it is with the Atonement of Christ in our lives. The plan of the Atonement wasn't simply so we could be cleansed, but so we could be filled. 3 Nephi 27:16 "And it shall come to pass, that whoso repenteth and is baptized in my name shall be filled..."

I worked in the LDS Cannery yesterday. We were canning peaches and it reminded me of the above thought I heard at BYU Education Week in the class "The Wonderous Atonement of Christ - Sanctification, Becoming Holy" by Michael A. Goodman. It is definitely a tender mercy to be cleansed and filled by the Atonement of Christ!
